new 2019 showmanship award categories eugene amodeo showmanship award for excellence in film promotion description: this award is presented to up to three of the year’s best film promotions. for wide blockbusters or limited releases, theatres are recognized for excellence in promoting a single film both within their theatre and within their community. criteria: submissions must detail all promotional elements and highlight the results of an initiative to promote a single film. complete entries will include objectives, targets and results from conception to completion of the project. photos/video and detailed accounts of specific activities must be well documented and illustrated in each submission. promotions will be judged on the following criteria: judging criteria: lobby & in-theatre promotion: 35% lobby display/decorations/costumes concession tie-in on-site events/activities pre-release date promotion retail & community outreach: 20% community event participation bounce back charitable tie-in promotion & communication: 20% media – newspaper/radio/tv/digital social media newsletters/flyers publicity uniqueness, creativity & evidence of team work: 15% stated objectives & results: 10% best promotion of a canadian movie description: this award is presented to up to three of the year’s best canadian film promotions. for french or english language movies, theatres are recognized for excellence in promoting a single film both within their theatre and within their community. a canadian movie is described as a film produced or co-produced by a canadian company. criteria: submissions must detail all promotional elements and highlight the results of an initiative to promote a single film. complete entries will include objectives, targets and results from conception to completion of the project. photos/video and detailed accounts of specific activities must be well documented and illustrated in each submission. promotions will be judged on the an objective to grow revenue, entries must demonstrate a purposeful initiative, event or program that increased traffic/attendance at their theatre. criteria: entries will outline initial objectives, targets and results for the program/initiative. a single program/event or a regularly occurring or permanent program will be considered and can include but are not limited to, recurring series/events, holiday theme programs, alternative content promotion, live performances, community program, concession promotion or charitable event. photos/video and detailed accounts of specific activities must be well documented and illustrated in each submission. entries will be judged on the following criteria: judging criteria: demonstrated results of promotion: 30% promotion & communication: 25% media – newspaper/radio/tv/digital social media newsletters/flyers publicity opportunity for replication of concept/growth potential: 20% opportunity to replicate program annually opportunity to adopt program in other theatres potential to expand, adapt or grow year over year community involvement: 15% engaged with community groups/businesses uniqueness, creativity & evidence of team work: 10% operational excellence award description: this category recognizes up to three of the year’s best initiatives that impacted the way a theatre conducts business. purposeful efforts that resulted in improvements in cost control, revenue increase, operational efficiency, guest satisfaction and/or employee retention/engagement are all areas that qualify under this category. criteria: submissions must detail all components of initiatives/efforts and explain the intended operational improvements. complete entries will include objectives, targets and results that outline the % increase/change in metrics from start to end of a stated timeline. company lead initiatives that theatres must comply with cannot be submitted under this category unless the entrant can demonstrate that they went above and beyond the expectation of the company in order to increase results further. photos/video and detailed accounts of specific actions that were implemented to improve metric(s) must be well documented and illustrated in each submission. entries will be judged on the following criteria: judging criteria: results of initiative (metric % change): 50% cost saving/revenue increase demonstrated independent initiative & creativity: 20% longevity impact: 20% is this an initiative where results were impactful but short lived, or will the impact of the efforts continue to be seen into the foreseeable future impact on other locations: 10% points awarded if entrant is able to demonstrate that they shared this learning with other theatres/their operations department and the initiative was rolled out in other theatres. tales from the field description: celebrating the magic of movie theatres and exceptional moments, this category recognizes a theatre’s impact and contribution to individual customers and the community. criteria: submissions must share unique stories of guest experiences that occurred within the theatre. entries can include, but are not limited to special moments, life cycle events, first dates, anniversaries, acts of charity or exceptional customer service initiatives. detailed accounts of experience must be well documented and communicated in each submission. photos/video/testimonials are encouraged but this recognition acknowledges that many of these stories are spontaneous and theatres are encouraged to submit without supporting material if none is available. entries will be judged on the following criteria: judging criteria: contribution/role of theatre to the customer experience: 50% uniqueness of story: 20% publicity/social media garnered: 15% customer testimonial: 15% letters/emails from customer hector ross award for top grossing canadian film description: this award recognizes the top grossing canadian film of the previous year.
